As part of its sustainability strategy, Dr. Behr GmbH has released its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) for 2023. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the company’s greenhouse gas emissions and marks a significant step towards climate neutrality.
Breakdown of Scope 1 and Scope 2 Emissions
From January 1 to December 31, 2023, Dr. Behr GmbH generated a total of 19.08 tons of CO2-equivalent emissions (CO2e), attributed entirely to Scope 1. This scope includes direct emissions such as fuel combustion. The largest source of emissions was the company’s vehicle fleet, accounting for 74.8% of total emissions, followed by heating oil consumption at 25.2%. Notably, there were no Scope 2 emissions, which would encompass indirect emissions from grid-connected energy sources like electricity. This achievement was made possible by the consistent use of green electricity.
In-House Photovoltaic System
An important contribution to reducing CO2e emissions was the commissioning of an in-house photovoltaic system in June 2023. This system generated a total of 3,525 kWh of electricity in 2023, of which 2,496 kWh was used directly by the company. The remaining 1,029 kWh was fed into the German power grid, contributing to an increase in the share of renewable energy. (Dr. Behr GmbH’s total electricity consumption for the same period was 23,891 kWh.) In the first half of 2024, the photovoltaic system already produced around 7,000 kWh of electricity. With the planned addition of further energy storage capacity next year, the company aims to increase its usage of renewable energy.
Future Climate Protection Strategy
The publication of the CCF is an important step toward a comprehensive climate protection strategy. Dr. Behr GmbH aims to continuously reduce its CO2e emissions and ultimately become climate neutral. The company has already implemented further measures to support this goal, including the use of green electricity and climate-neutral shipping of products with its logistics partner UPS, which is made possible through support for emission offset projects.
Outlook
With the 2023 CCF, Dr. Behr GmbH has laid the foundation for sustainable corporate governance. The report demonstrates that the company takes its responsibility toward the environment seriously and is ready to actively contribute to achieving global climate goals. Dr. Behr GmbH invites its business partners and customers to join this path toward a sustainable future.
